Katendrecht is a peninsula on the south side of Rotterdam, along the Maas. Locals call the area De Kaap. The neighborhood is compact, urban and close to the water.

From harbor district to city district.

Katendrecht grew along with the port. Sailors, workers and newcomers came ashore here. In the last century, Europe’s first Chinatown developed here. Chinese sailors opened boarding houses, eateries and laundries around the quays and Deliplein.
The district was known as lively and rough. That mix of cultures gave Katendrecht its open character. You can still see that today.

Living, working and staying.

Living in Katendrecht means city living with a village feel. People greet each other. Business owners know their regulars. Katendrecht is easy to navigate and well connected. You’re close to the city center, yet it feels less busy here. The water brings calm and space to the area. The district keeps moving. New ideas and entrepreneurs find space here. You keep discovering something new, a route along the quay, a coffee spot around the corner or the skyline at sunset.

Old and new side by side.

Warehouses, old façades and quays recall the port. Between those buildings you now find housing, hospitality and creative spaces. The district has been renewed, but not polished smooth. The rough edge is part of it.

The heart of the district is Deliplein.

A square with restaurants, cafés and local businesses. Residents and visitors mix here all day. You come for coffee, lunch, dinner or just to sit for a while.
