A cocktail bar focused on attention, atmosphere and drinks with a creative twist.

Bar Break opened in October 2023 and already feels like a go-to spot on Katendrecht. Behind the bar are Salva and Rick, with Iris managing things behind the scenes. Three hospitality professionals with a clear vision: cocktails matter, but the guest’s feeling comes first. It’s about attention, atmosphere, quality and a sense of home. What’s in the glass is a means, the experience is the goal.

What kind of bar is Bar Break?
Rick: “The cocktails are inspired by classics from the 70s and 80s, rethought for today. Familiar, elegant and made with modern techniques. Sometimes a little cliché on purpose, but always refined. From day one we made no compromises on quality. You see that in the atmosphere and in the crowd. About 80 percent of our guests return often. It feels like a community, and you notice it right away.”

You have a lot of experience, right?
“We started with cocktails in the early 2000s, when cocktail bars were still rare. A lot of tasting, a lot of traveling and learning from other bars. It’s not a job, it’s a passion. We’ve been doing this for over 25 years. But the key is still listening to our guests. If people feel good here, we’ve done it right.”

What’s on the menu?
“There are about 40 cocktails on the menu, but we also like to freestyle. Tell us what you’re in the mood for and we’ll surprise you. That includes alcohol-free options. Mocktails, coffee or soft drinks, everything is possible. We serve bites with the drinks, and with Deli Break around the corner the options have only grown. The biggest compliment is guests who return and bring others to experience Bar Break.”
