DUTCH PHOTO MUSEUM.

The Netherlands Photo Museum is located in the historic Santos Warehouse at Rijnhaven. This photography museum in Rotterdam brings together the history and the future of Dutch photography in one place.

From coffee warehouse to museum
Santos was built around 1901 as a coffee warehouse for beans from Brazil. At a time when Rijnhaven was full of ships, the building served storage and trade. Today there are no coffee sacks, but millions of photographs.

The museum manages millions of photos and archives. You see how the Netherlands has documented itself since the 19th century. Art, documentary photography and portraits show how society changes. You also pass open storage areas and studios where photos are preserved and restored.

A visit often starts in the Gallery of Honour of Dutch photography, where 99 images tell the story of Dutch photography. Visitors help decide on the hundredth image.

The museum offers more than exhibitions. You find a large photo book library, workshops, a darkroom, a museum shop and a coffee bar with a view of the water.
