JORDY'S BAKERY

The bakery for bread worth cycling out of your way for, a welcoming atmosphere, generously filled sandwiches and equally good coffee

Fifteen years ago, Jordy started baking sourdough bread. In addition to the bakery, there are now four shops, including one on Deliplein. Marieke Klootwijk, co-owner and Jordy’s wife, runs the shops together with her store managers. Seven days a week, their doors are open to local residents, families and passers-by who stop in for fresh bread, filled sandwiches or a good cup of coffee. Inside, the atmosphere is lively, while outside, the square invites you to sit and stay.

What stands out most about your bakery?
Marieke: “We have a welcoming team, a great group of young people who create a lovely atmosphere, and all those delicious loaves. Multigrain sourdough is my favourite because the oil from the seeds makes the bread softer. We also have filled sandwiches, fresh coffee and, in summer, ice cream. The shop on Deliplein is located in a dynamic neighbourhood that is developing rapidly. It also has a children’s corner that we are very proud of.”

You describe your bread as “worth cycling out of your way for”. Why?
“Sourdough bread has more flavour and is easy to spread with butter. Few bakers let their dough rise for 24 hours, shape it, and then let it rise for another 24 hours. We then bake it directly on the stone floor of the oven. That is how you get that fantastic crispy crust. We take the time needed to make the bread taste really good. But there is more. We also offer a wide range of seasonal pastries, ready to take away or enjoy in our shop.”

That children’s corner is there for a reason.
“We cater to local residents, families, museum visitors and people who come in during their lunch break to pick up lunch and their daily bread. Children are always welcome. They love the freshly baked croissants and the crusts of our plain sourdough bread. Deliplein itself, with its picnic benches, is also a great place to eat and play. And who knows, we may expand our terrace one day.”
